WAIORA WORKSHOP

The Waiora Workshop was held at Mangatoatoa Marae to enable local hapū to be involved in the enhancement of the Pūniu River.

From this event, Pūniu River Care were able to capture history and stories from the local people and pinpoint significant locations along the catchment.  Whanau gathered to listen to our speakers and were able to learn more about our Vision and Mission to better understand the Kaupapa of Pūniu River Care Inc. A freshwater display was set out with fish and tuna displays and exciting information on excellent eels for the kids to enjoy!

We displayed our 2017 activities calender, where many whānau put their hand up to help out where they could. Some activities included planting, propagation, business development,  tuna research, events and Project clean up. It was so awesome to see everyone interested and willing to donate their valued time and skills!

With support from Sustainable Coastlines, Te Kawa Robb and James Bailey came along to help facilitate the event and catering services were provided by The Department of Corrections.

With constructive discussions and positive outcomes, this workshop was a success and a great way to finish the year. We now have a database of people and a few historic stories to better help us out on our Mission!
